Lifestyle changes: Natural and Organic Products

I’m currently going through a lifestyle change in that I’m really trying my best to have everything organic and as natural as possible. In this post I’m going to be sharing a few of the other natural changes I’ve made outside of diet.

Cleaning. Now that my little Jija is starting to become very active moving around on the floor, it’s become even more important to keep the house spotless. However, the other day I caught her licking the floor while playing and it made me realise that she’s actually licking cleaning products that I’ve mopped with, yuck! So, I started doing lots of research on natural home-made cleaning products, I was surprised to see that I already had most of these ingredients in my kitchen cupboard. I’m still experimenting with cleaning products but I’ll share the one I’ve been using for the floors (let me know if you’d like me to share more cleaning recipes).

  • 1 part vinegar
  • 2 parts warm water
  • Essential oil of choice (optional- if you don’t like the smell of vinegar).

(I don’t know about you, but I’d rather my baby taste some vinegar than nasty unknown lab chemicals!)

Deodorant. I’ve finally decided to pay attention and do research about the ingredients in the roll-ons I use daily. There’s too much research out there stating that the high levels of aluminium in most antiperspirants are linked to breast cancer! I honestly don’t want to take the risk and continue, even if the research isn’t fully correct. So instead I’ve been experimenting with other natural ways to fight good old B.O.

  • 1tsp Apple cider vinegar
  • 2tsps water
  • Use cotton to dab it onto armpits

The smell will disappear quickly, as soon as it dries. Considering this was my first ‘natural deodorant’ I tried, I was very happy to find out it works very well. (An added bonus is that apple cider vinegar helps to get rid of discolouration and dark spots naturally!)

‘Natural Roll-on’. I also purchased a roll-on deodorant by Desert Essence for when I am out and about (as I don’t really want to bring a bottle of vinegar with me, ha!). I love this roll-on, it’s made of tea tree oil, lavender and aloe (and other all natural ingredients): its vegan-friendly and smells lovely! It does the job but to be honest apple cider vinegar works even better.

Mouthwash. I’ve swapped using aggressive commercial mouthwash with good old coconut oil. I finally started oil-pulling, and I love it! I’ve seen loads of people sharing the amazing benefits of oil-pulling for a while now. I hopped on the bandwagon and do not regret it at all. At first it was super weird swishing around a spoon full of coconut oil in my mouth but I quickly became used to it after a couple days. It honestly leaves your mouth feeling super clean and gives you amazing breath. Go on, try it! (I’m on the hunt for a more natural toothpaste, please comment below if you can suggest any.)

Pads. Yup, I’m going there! Again, I’ve been doing a lot of research on pads and we all know there’s unfortunately a lot chemicals and toxins ,such as chlorine, in most pads and tampons. I came across healthier alternatives like the menstrual cups but to be honest I’m too scared to ever try that! Instead I settled for organic cotton pads that are not made with bleach, plastic and the other chemicals used in main brands of pads. (I haven’t yet tried these, but if you would like an update for when I do, let me know!)

•If you would like me to share the organic and natural changes I’ve made to my diet, let me know and I’ll share a post on it.•

What are some of the more natural and organic changes that you have chosen to include in your life? Please share below, I’d love to hear!

  1. Asalaam a alikum Sis,
A fantastic post! Thank you for sharing. I’ve also heard The Salt Of The Spray deodorant is good but I’m yet to try that. I’ve been using Bionsen for a while now. I’ve been trying to use natural shower products too. Should you come across any or have any suggestions I would love to know. Sending love as always x

  3. Nice post its small steps like these that could help us adopt a more natural lifestyle. For natural toothpaste you could try any Indian vegan toothpastes or use miswak. Also, wasn’t aware that coconut oil could be used as a mouth freshener.
